You came to me all chubby and dull The doctor said you were not well ‘Four pounds must go’ they frowned, saying you were a slacker No mice had been chased, no squirrels set a chatter They said that you’re lazy, you don’t like to play All you do all day long is sleep your day away. I looked in your eyes, so green and so deep, no life lived in them, you were a sad heap.
I could not resist, oh my, you cannot stay here alone I had no one to ask permission of, no one to phone So I bought food, I bought toys, a snuggle bed and brush, A carrier, a water bowl, a litter box and such. You jumped on my bed that first night we came here Laying up on my chest tender close to my face, wanting kisses, so dear I kissed your soft cheek, said you’ll no longer roam You are here with me now, here you are, welcome home.
(Perhaps someday, one of the true poets on Substack will show me how to make it publish the way I really wanted it, which was a 4 line stanza) sigh. 🤭
Beautiful poem! Beautiful cat! Very sweet!
